Book excerpt: A study of the potential applications of artificial intelligence to the field of office automation is presented. Some research and development projects underway at CWARC are presented as illustrations and a number of useful classification tools are highlighted to help identify existing and potential application areas. These findings are summarized in the form of three matrices which identifies interesting overlaps that can be addressed by expert system applications in office automation.
