Book excerpt: This report presents a cost analysis of 1,3-Butadiene production from carbon monoxide using a two-step process The process examined is similar to LanzaTech/Invista process. First, carbon monoxide (CO) is fermented forming 2,3-butanediol (BDO). Then, BDO is catalytically converted to 1,3-Butadiene (BD). Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and ethanol are generated as by-products.
