Book excerpt: This study was conducted in four Brazilian veterinary science and animal husbandry Research Centers in order to ientify a core list of journals used by researchers in these areas. A questionaire applied to the researchers of four centers provided data concerning the user's opinion about journals, and an on-line search from the databases CAB, AGRICOLA and SCISEARCH gave a sample of the current literature on nutrition of swine, poultry, dayre catlle, beef cattle and goats. This sample made possible the identification of the most cited journals dealing with the subjects. Some important conclusions reached are: 1) A great majority of researchers feel that the journal collections in their respective libraries are adequate for their research work: 2) There was on overlap among the four centers for many top ranked titles, such as: Journal of Animal Science, Pesquisa Agropecuaria Brasileira, Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Zootecnia, Animal Production, Canadian Journal of Animal Science, Animal Breeding Abstracts, Arquivos da Escola de Veterinaria da UFMG, Veterinary Record, Journal of Nutrition and Journal of Reproduction and Fertility.3) Table 14 summarizes the most important journals found in this investigation.
