The directory of each place'follows its history, and those for the larger towns, are given under two modes of arrangement - the first alphabetical, according to sur names; and the second classed under the heads of trades and professions; and each of them exhibiting the Post Office Regulations, the arrival and departure of the Mails, Coaches, Carriers. Deeply impressed with a sense of the numerous Obligations under which the Author and his Assistants have been laid, by the contributions and cor rections of literary and official gentlemen, and by the liberal patronage of more than subscribers, they beg leave to present to them all, the tribute of their unfeigned acknowledgments, and at the same tinie to inform them that the Second Volume will be ready for delivery in the Summer of 1838, until which period the names of Subscribers to the work will continue to be received.
