Most of the project area is located in the northeast portion of the City of Ankeny but small portions are also located in unincorporated Polk County. The project area includes the I-35 corridor beginning at the existing Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) rest area, approximately 0.5-mile south of NE36th Street, and extending northward to NW 54th Street, approximately 1.5 miles north of NE 36th Street.
