Marine Corps Reference Publication (MCRP) 3-10A.3, Marine Infantry Platoon, pro-vides planning and operating considerations inherent to current operational environments and tactics, techniques, and procedures for infantry platoons. This publication is a foundational document to assist in the preparation and execution of platoon-level operations. When taken in context with other Marine Corps doctrine, it is designed to form the educational foundation required to empower small unit leaders with the knowledge needed to apply creative and adaptive thought to tactical decision making, in order to make timely and sound tactical decisions. Its primary audience is infantry platoon commanders, platoon sergeants, and section and squad leaders. The secondary audience consists of leaders assigned as platoon commanders, platoon sergeants, and section and squad leaders from units across the Marine air-ground task force when serving as provisional infantry. This publication is not intended to be all-encompassing. Rather, it references relevant information from other doctrinal publications as appropriate. Also, it does not address force structure and weapon system changes made recently or anticipated over the next several years unless sufficient experimentation and testing have already been conducted to generate best practices that are ready to be codified herein. As those best practices are developed, this publication will be changed or revised to reflect them.
