Book excerpt: Milling is the machining process of using rotary cutters to remove material from a workpiece. It covers a wide variety of different operations and is one the most the commonly used processes in industries and machine shops today. In this book, the authors propose an approach that provides good evaluation results within a short interpolation time for rapidly evaluating non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) curves and surfaces in actual machining processes. The next chapter explores a regression model of the milling tool wear by using the multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) technique in a regular cut as well as entry cut and exit cut. The remaining chapters evaluate the applications and limitations of the milling process using the breakage matrix approach; mechanochemistry (which connects mining and metallurgical operations) as a way to develop new materials and to develop environmentally friendly and economical technologies; and an experimental investigation on automated wrought aluminum alloy using uncoated sintered carbide end mills with different helix angles (the main aim of all machining operations is to obtain lower machining costs by improving the quality and productivity. Furthermore, the consumer's focus on environmentally conscious products has put increased pressure on industries to minimise the use of cutting fluids).
