It's not for nothing that they say space elf, because they were real ships sailing through the gates in ice to other worlds and not to the empty space above Earth. Universe means "Whole World" in Czech. People sailed through the gates or to travel to the Whole World used Portals, based on a similar system used in the Philadelphia Experiment. Some places in the world like the island of Rapa-Iti, still have the Portal. Portals were either rebuilt or demolished.
