Book excerpt: In 1988, radiocarbon dating showed that the Shroud of Turin was of too recent origin to be the burial cloth of Jesus. However, Dr. Leoncio Garza-Valdes has since discovered that an organic bacterial coating forms over time on ancient textiles. This coating tends to distort carbon dating results to such an extent that many ancient textiles may vastly predate normal carbon test results. Dr. Garza-Valdes' work holds great significance for archeologists -- and has also bolstered the case for the authenticity of the Shroud.Still more amazing has been Dr. Garza-Valdes' discovery of microscopic clues within the Shroud which lend credibility to the story of its biblical origins -- the most startling of which is the discovery of blood remnants that contain a man's DNA. Is this blood that of Jesus of Nazareth? And if so, could the DNA within it be the DNA of God?
