Book excerpt: BUGS is a science fiction story involving the mutation and following destruction of giant-mutant-bloodthirsty monster lobsters. The story was written thirty years ago and involves a treasure hunt for Blackbeard lost riches, presumed to be somewhere at the Isle of Shoals off the coast of Maine and New Hampshire. After two lobstermen accidentally discard a bucket of genetically compromised lobsters they fall into a rusting barrel of low level radiation and began to grow, eventually reaching forty-five feet in length. The story also involves murder and suspense as a major conflict grows over a territorial dispute of fishing grounds. There are many other twists and turns to this story as the Lobsterman, his gay brother, an up and coming painter, and his friend/lover, visit Portsmouth, NH from Oakland, CA. BUGS is the story of Giant mutant lobsters and many other bugs of various sizes that effect our daily lives as humans in an every increasing world of global warming and pollution destroying our land, air and seas.
