Book excerpt: A Walk Through Leadership is aimed at leaders and potential leaders in higher education (particularly community colleges), but most of these principles are universal and would be applicable for any leadership situation. While many leadership books are dry and make little effort to help the reader internalize the concepts, this book overcomes this problem by using familiar metaphors and is written as a narrative and a dialogue in a spirit similar to Tuesdays With Morrie. The first part of the book is a series of discussions between a woman embarking on a leadership position and her retired grandfather who had years of experience, as they take walks together. The second part continues those discussions and those walks later in the woman's career as she is about to assume the role of college president. Although written in two parts, all of the content is equally useful to readers no matter where they are in their leadership career.
