Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the first critical edition of the Anonymi In Iob Commentarius, which had erroneously been attributed to Origen; it is one of the longest and most important Latin Arian texts to have survived. The commentary, which treats the first chapters of the book of Job (1, 1 - 3, 19), has been transmitted in seven manuscripts and one early printing dependent upon a now lost manuscript. Language and style reveal that the text is based on sermons, which were preached during Holy Week by an Arian bishop of the late fourth century apparently in northern Italy. The pastoral concerns expressed in the commentary offer today's reader remarkable insight into the cultural and social environment of its author as well as details concerning liturgy, exegesis, spirituality and popular piety unavailable elsewhere
