Book excerpt: The Commission carried out a series of audits in 25 Member States between 2016 and 2018 to examine what measures Member States have put in place to audit their national control systems to ensure the safety of feed and food. On the whole, the report concludes that whilst all Member States were carrying out audits, and that these audits could lead to improvements in the official controls of feed and food, the impact of these audits very much depended on strong management commitment to follow up on the results. Some challenges remain, in particular with regard to the independent scrutiny of the audit process.
