Book excerpt: The cyber talent crisis has persisted long enough. Our nation is at risk as the number and sophistication of cyber-attacks continue to grow, but the government has failed to act with urgency. Without the skilled workforce in place to protect the integrity of these systems, the nation will be highly vulnerable. Many of the personnel issues confronting the cybersecurity workforce are endemic in the federal system. Comprehensive civil service reform is needed in the long-term for the health of the entire federal government. However, in the short-term, the bottom line is that federal agencies need immediate help to deal with the escalating and increasingly sophisticated cyber threat.
