Book excerpt: Copper oxides are the earliest materials which have been investigated to work as the thin film solar cells due to its non-toxic prosperity, abundance exist, as well as the low-cost formation processes. While the efficiencies of Cu2O based solar cells reported, around 2%, are much lower than its theoretical limit (21%). The purpose of this study is to investigate the best condition for p-type Cu2O film through electrodeposition. The electrolyte, pH, deposition time, applied potential and current density of electrodeposition were compared and optimized in this study. Thermal annealing and buffer layers were also introduced in this study to improve the performance of the solar cell. The photovoltaic device with Cu2O/Ti/ITO cell structure where Cu2O was deposited in the electrolyte with pH of 13 and thermally annealed at 300 °C for 60 minutes was found to have the best efficiency of ~1.76%, which exceeds most of the Cu2O based electrodeposited heterojunction solar cells.
