Book excerpt: This Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) evaluates the environmental impacts of ongoing and proposed military training land uses. The lands involved are primarily Department of Defense (DoD)-controlled lands in the Mariana Islands that have been used for training for many years. The proposed action of this EIS represents the maximum training land uses that were formally requested by USCINCPAC organizations and published in the Commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Marianas Training Plan, and the content of related Navy and USAF training orders and directives. All of the mitigation measures documented in the Record of Decision for the Final EIS will be incorporated in future site-specific training orders, streamlining the process of planning training exercises and assuring that necessary mitigation will be implemented.
