Book excerpt: Abstract: A report presents findings on the money value, quantity, and nutritive value of food used at home and costs for food away from home for Puerto Rican households in 1977. Data on the nutrient return per dollar's worth of food and on nutrient density (per 1,000 calories) are included. The nutrient content of food used at home was obtained both from information collected on kinds and quantities of food used by households during a 7 day period, and from USDA composition tables. Nutrient levels of food used by households are expressed as percentages of the 1974 RDA's; findings are grouped by urbanization, income, and household size. (rkm).
