Book excerpt: While on temporary duty with the US Army in Stuttgart, Germany, a fellow employee asked if I planned to take a side trip to the little village of Conques in south-central France to visit the Ste Foy Church. "The Ste Foy Church?" I asked. I had never heard about Ste Foy of Conques. All my life people had questioned me on the origin of my name since it was so unusual. I shared my aunt's name, but the family had no idea of the origin. More significantly, when I was 18 years old, living in the Philippines, I converted to the Catholic faith. The priest that baptized me told me that Foye was not a Christian name and I should select another name under which to be baptized. So imagine my surprise to find out years later that I had been given a saints name. I never made the trip to Conques, but I started collecting as much information as I could about Ste Foy. I fell in love with her story and decided to write this book for my granddaughter who shares my name.
