Book excerpt: Absrract: Field observations and field data show that production on Springerville soils is similar to production on Gem and Tortugas soils where there are few pinyon and juniper trees, but that the Springerville soils produce much less perennial herbaceous vegetation than the other soils when there is apprecialbe tree cover. From the behavior of the species studied, the differences in the soils observed in the field did not appear to be due to soil moisture, nitrogen, or phosphorus.
