Book excerpt: Describes the basic knowledge required by a pest control operator to conduct an integrated pest management (IPM) program for common pests found in buildings and structural sites in British Columbia. The first part introduces the IPM concept and its main components, reviews preventive strategies and controls, and describes preferred pesticides currently used in structural IPM programs. The second part contains chapters each outlining examples of IPM programs for structural pests commonly found in British Columbia, including ants, cockroaches, fleas, termites, beetles, silverfish, moths, rodents, and birds. The final part contains general information on the safe use of pesticides, as well as the characteristics of pesticides commonly used in structural pest control. Each chapter includes a list of learning objectives and study questions for review.
