Book excerpt: "The December 1990 meeting of more than sixty U.S. experts in marine science of the Intra-Americas Sea made 21 recommendations, with deadlines and agencies responsible to carry them out. These recommendations were a consensus of two days of institutional reports, individual conversations, and workshops. The one overwhelming recommendations was to support the UNEP and IOC in the region through active U.S. scientists' participation in problem identification, project planning and execution, and information transfer.
