Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Arsenal Cannon, Vol. 7: June 6, 1916 The question of a trade school in India napolis was agitated throughout the year 1902, with the result that on March 27, 1903, the Arsenal Grounds were pur chased from the government for the pur pose of establishing such a trade school. The money necessary for this was secured by popular subscription, and placed in the hands of a committee of Indianapolis citizens Who bought the land from the United States Government for A year and a month later, on April 8, 1904, the. School was incorporated under a board of eight trustees and Sol.c. Dickey was made president of the insti tute. The school was opened in Septem ber of the same year.
