Book excerpt: Ramone Ramone wasn't having a good day, but then, that was nothing new. Pouring himself a drink and lighting another cigarette, he takes a moment to review the case: A half-baked artist has an apartment full of slashed paintings, another suit took a wrong turn out of a high window, and his favorite pawn shop isn't as safe as it used to be. To make things worse, his best hope to unravel things is a space-cadet hippy that never left the seventies and a dead cat with a diamond collar. With one foot on the pavement and the other in a glass of whiskey, Ramone is left to tie it all together. At least he has his girlfriend Li, and Jerome, the best partner the sixth grade ever produced. Maybe the life of a private eye isn't so bad after all - but what does any of this have to do with a duck?
