I do not forget that I am speaking to men who are interested supremely in the art of preaching, but I invite you to approach the subject through the Christian church. After so many illustrious teachers have spoken on the subject, it would be indeed presumptuous for any man at this late date to attempt to offer additional suggestion or instruction, were it not that the subject of preaching lies, like the New Jerusalem, foursquare, with an ideal number of gates on every side, through any one of which the lecturer may make his way into the heart of the imperial theme.
