Book excerpt: The Talke Pits Development Company was a chaotic group of dope dealing, hippies, based in the Potteries, a region around Stoke on Trent, England from 1968 to 1971. Most of the characters were students at Alsager College, and a large percent were kicked out before they completed the course. Their escapades are recorded in the personal recollections of Anthony Ginn. They include the Company's battles with the college authorities, the Christian Union, the Cheshire drugs squad and the corpulent Guru Maharaji. They were involved in setting up the first Glastonbury Festival on Worthy farm in 1971, and the journey overland to India. Anthony chronicles the history and affects of LSD, the influence of World War 2 on the Hippy Revolution and the psychedelic adventures of Bonzo the lost dog. This book will make you laugh and make you cry. If you weren't around in the late 1960s and are curious about what was going on, this book spills the beans all over the expensive carpet. If you were around but can't remember, it will jog your memory. If you're a committed, hardcore, Bible thumping Christian, you'll be offended by its sacrilegious content, so put it back on the shelf and move on to the section for those who are saved. The author already acknowledges he will spend eternity in Hell, washing dishes in Satan's cafe.
