Book excerpt: Abstract: Veterans and families involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF) are experiencing multifaceted challenges, in the reintegration/reunification process following war, often as a result of posttraumatic stress disorder. This social problem challenges the field of social work to develop interventions that support and honor military families for their sacrifices both in deployment and the aftermath of war. The Veteran and Family Reintegration Program is a proposed pilot program to respond to the reintegration/reunification challenges that military families experience when they have been impacted by trauma that follows the insurgency of war. The proposed pilot program aims to assist OIF/OEF military families to cope, heal, and thrive in the reunification process. If funded, this 2 year pilot program will be implemented as a subcomponent program to the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) program of the Veterans Affairs (VA) of Long Beach, and will assist unserved OIF/OEF military family units in the post-deployment phase.
