If you remember the North Indian Astrology chart thus, Lords Sun and Moon traverse through it anti clockwise, always. This is important – never forget this. On the other hand, Lords Rahu and Ketu are always retrograde. They traverse the North Indian astrology chart clockwise always. Practically what does this mean? This means that Lords Sun and Moon always go from zodiac sign 1 to 2 to 3 and so on. Whereas Lords Rahu and Ketu always go from astrological sign 1 to 12 to 11 to 10 and so on in order. Remember that Lords Rahu and Ketu always face each other in the Rashi chart (also called D1), and hence they change sign at the same time. Lord Rahu is the Head and Lord Ketu is the Tail/ feet of the Divine Serpent / Divine Asura Swarbhanu. They are hence, always in tandem – 2 parts of one whole, one body. Lord Sun is in any one astrological sign for a month and it changes sign every month. You would remember that Lord Sun is the representative of punctuality and discipline – so there are no breaks to the rule. Lord Moon is in similar vein – He changes sign every 2.5 days – passing through the zodiac in 28 days/ roughly a month. On the other hand, Lords Rahu and Ketu spend 18 months in a zodiac sign. Retrograde Planets Now that we have eliminated 4 planets, this leaves us with 5 planets which can be retrograde in a horoscope – Lords Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Saturn and Venus. Retrogradation are abnormalities and some astrologers link these to past life debts – the abnormality can give you pain and benefits both depending on placement in your chart.
